Calabrian citrus calendar: when each citrus fruit is in season, month by month

In short

  • Citrus season in Calabria: October to April. From May to September no citrus is harvested.
  • December is the richest month: all seven citrus fruits we grow are in season.
  • Clementines: late October to January, usually until around 10 January.
  • Oranges: Navel (Navelina) from late November to March, Vaniglia from December to April.
  • Lemons, grapefruits and sweet lime: lemons October to December, pink grapefruits November to April, yellow grapefruits December to March, sweet lime (piretta) November to February.
  • Dates are indicative: they depend on the year and on how the fruit ripens.

The calendar refers to our citrus groves in the Sibari plain, in Corigliano-Rossano (Cosenza, Calabria).

What's in season, month by month

October

Lemons start. The first clementines arrive at the end of the month.

November

Lemons, clementines, pink grapefruits and sweet lime (piretta). Navel oranges start in late November.

December

The month with the widest choice: all seven of our citrus fruits are in season. Lemons, clementines, Navel and Vaniglia oranges, pink and yellow grapefruits, sweet lime. The right time for our mixed citrus boxes.

January

Navel and Vaniglia oranges, pink and yellow grapefruits, sweet lime. Clementines end in the first half of the month, usually around 10 January.

February

Navel and Vaniglia oranges, pink and yellow grapefruits. Last weeks for sweet lime.

March

Navel and Vaniglia oranges, pink and yellow grapefruits. The Navel season ends at the end of the month.

April

Vaniglia oranges and pink grapefruits: the last citrus fruits of the season.

May to September

No citrus is harvested. The new season starts again in October with lemons. On the product pages you can click "Notify me when available" to find out when they are back.

Why the dates change every year

Ripening depends on the season: temperatures and rainfall can bring the harvest forward or push it back by a few weeks. That's why we don't work with fixed dates: we pick when the fruit is ripe.

How it gets to you

We pick by hand when your order arrives, with no post-harvest treatments. We ship on Mondays and Tuesdays and delivery takes 48–72 hours. Shipping is included in the price.
